New Terrorism Laws

(Protection of Premises) Act 2025

What Does This Mean?

What Does The New Law Do?
  • New law aims to keep people safe and aims to scale up preparedness for, and protection from, terrorist attacks.

  • The Law aims to ensure better protection against the continued and evolving threat that the UK faces from terrorism.

  • Support, guidance, and training will help embed best practice and drive-up standards across the UK.

  • But laws don't apply to criminals and terrorists.

  • Only physical security measures and procedures will help to prevent them!

What's Required Under Law?

A detailed analysis and threat assessment and security plan; with the inclusion of protective security measures where they are practicable to achieve; are required to protect your customers and your business against the continued and evolving threat that the UK faces from a variety of potential acts of terrorism and individual lone wolves.

Including but not limited to - Explosive Devices delivered by Vehicle, People or by Post; CBRN Devices; Suicide Bombers & Attackers; Shootings & Close Quarter Attacks using any form of Weapon or Blade and the use of fire & corrosive materials such as acids as a weapon.

How Will Law Be Enforced

An inspection process may work in order to seek and educate, advise, and ensure compliance with any Duty. Where necessary, an inspectorate may use a range of sanctions to ensure that breaches are effectively dealt with. But that wont protect people under your duty care; only deterrence of any incident will!

If you do not have the policies and suite of compliance documents in place, we can assist with that also.

How will Government ensure complying with any Law doesn’t create undue burden on businesses?

Government says openly it has considered the impact on premises and locations that may be captured under Law. This includes ensuring requirements placed on Duty holders are proportionate whilst achieving better public security, and without placing undue burden on parties responsible for public places. However, it is reasonable that many locations should take appropriate and proportionate measures to protect their staff and the public.

Laws that apply exclusively to larger venues may inadvertently shift attention away from them, leaving smaller, uncovered venues more vulnerable.!
